モーム短編集「雨」を読了。小説に書かれているのはちょうど大正から昭和に移行しようとする時代、南洋植民地を舞台にした短編を集めたものです。学生時代に読んだことを記憶していますが、遠い日本で読むのと違って、旧植民地で読むと小説の空気感が肌感覚で感じることができます。収録されている３本の小説のうち「東洋航路」が一番好きです。ともすると救いのない南洋生活の中に、一片の光が与えられて爽やかな感動が感じられる話です。Kindle Unlimitedで無料で読めます。
